Compost workshop
expression of interest
Learn how to make biologically complete compost.
Build the conditions for bacteria, fungi, protozoa and nematodes to thrive, learn how to extract them properly, and see what they look like under the microscope.
You already know compost can improve soil. The frustrating part is not knowing whether the compost you’re making is actually growing the biology you wanted in the first place.
You can spend weeks building a pile, months turning it, managing moisture and temperature, then spread it across the soil or extract it and still be left wondering: did I actually create what I thought I created?
Because breaking down organic matter is one thing. Building compost with all four key groups of soil microorganisms present is another.
And if you’re using compost or compost extracts to improve soil function, every batch takes time and effort to create and apply. And when you’re working from guesswork, you often don’t find out whether it worked until the plants or the season give you the answer.
This workshop is about removing as much of that guesswork as possible.
What you’ll learn
How to build biologically complete compost, how to create the conditions that allow bacteria, fungi, protozoa and nematodes to develop together, rather than simply ending up with decomposed organic matter.
How to extract the biology properly
Once you’ve grown that biology, I’ll show you how to get it out of the compost and into an extract you can apply to soil and plants.
What you’re actually trying to grow
We’ll look at compost under the microscope so you can see the organisms we’ve been talking about. This isn’t a microscope training course. The microscope is there so you can put a picture to the biology you’re learning to create.
This workshop is aimed at farmers and growers who are already interested in regenerative practices and want to understand the biological side of compost more deeply.
If you’ve been making compost, using extracts, buying biological products or trying to improve soil biology, but you want to understand what you’re actually trying to build, this is for you.
You don’t need microscope experience and you don’t need to be a compost expert.
You just need to want to understand the process properly.
Why I’m running it
I spend a lot of my time looking at soil and compost under the microscope for farmers and growers.
One thing that becomes very obvious is that compost can look perfectly good while the biology inside it can be very different.
That’s why I wanted to run this workshop.
Not to give you another recipe to follow, but to help you understand the conditions that produce the biology you’re actually trying to grow to hopefully take doubt away from the process
