What the microscope actually shows you

Complete all four check-ins and the full $45 comes back to you as credit toward a professional soil microscopy assessment through Living Earth Biology, normally $200, so you're in for $155.

Here's what that actually involves. I take a sample of your soil, or your compost, or wherever you're curious, and look at it under magnification strong enough to see the organisms actually doing the work down there. Bacteria, fungi, protozoa, sometimes nematodes, depending on what's present. What I'm looking for is balance and diversity, not just "is there life in there," but whether the right kinds of organisms are present in the right kinds of numbers for what you're trying to grow.

You get a plain-English report out of it. Not a spreadsheet of numbers you need a science background to interpret, an actual conversation about what's thriving, what's missing, and what that means for your soil going forward.

This isn't a new sideline for me. My soil biology work has been backed by Byron Shire Council's Regenerative Agriculture program, on a market garden project using the same biological approach behind RootWise Balance. I've been looking at soil under a microscope for backyard growers and working farms across the Northern Rivers for years, this is just the first time I've built it directly into an offer like this.

Sixty days is enough time to see real movement, but not instant. Bacteria populations can shift within a couple of weeks under the right conditions. Fungal networks take longer, generally 30 to 45 days before you'd expect to see meaningful change. That's part of why the check-ins land where they do, day 15 usually shows early movement, day 45 is where the more structural changes tend to show up.

Nobody's soil biology rebuilds itself in a week, and if anyone tells you it does, be skeptical.

Why only twenty spots per cohort

Twenty per cohort, and when they fill, they fill. That's not a scarcity tactic, it's a capacity limit, I'm the one looking at every sample that comes through, and I'd rather look after twenty people properly than fifty people badly. Two cohorts are running this spring if one fills before you get to it.
