Getting started with RootWise Balance

So you've got your RootWise Balance. Good.

This page will tell you exactly what to do with it, when to expect something

to happen, and how to get the most out of it over time.

It's simpler than you think.

HOW TO USE IT

The standard method is straightforward.

Add 1 teaspoon to a 10L watering can, mix it through, and water your pots

or beds as you normally would. That's it. The powder dissolves quickly and

carries everything down into the root zone where it's needed.

If you've got a hose-on adapter, add 1 teaspoon per 25 square metres and

apply across your garden beds or lawn areas. This is a great option for

larger spaces or when you want to cover more ground quickly.

RootWise Balance can also be used as a foliar spray, applied directly to the

leaves. This is particularly useful for plants that are really struggling or for

seedlings that need a quick boost while the root system is getting established. It can stain some leaves such as lettuce so don't spray near harvest time. It is completely safe though.

It's compatible with everything you're already doing. Compost, worm castings, organic fertilisers, mulch. It doesn't replace any of it. It just makes all of it work better.

THE FIRST MONTH, DO THIS

The first month is the most important.

Your soil biology needs time to establish, and applying more frequently in the beginning gives the microbes the best chance to get a foothold.

For the first four weeks, apply weekly. Same method, same amount. Just more often.

After the first month, drop back to every two to four weeks and maintain from there. You'll start to notice your soil holding moisture differently. Things will feel less dry between waterings. That's a good sign.

You'll know it's really working when you walk past your garden and think, hang on, that actually looks pretty good. It's subtle but you'll notice.

WHERE TO START

Start with your worst performing pot or bed.

That's usually where you see the difference most clearly, and quickly. A plant that's been struggling will respond more visibly than one that's already doing okay.

If you've got a fruit tree that hasn't been happy, start there. If you've got a raised bed that used to produce well but has slowed down, that's a good one. Pick the problem plant and give it your attention for the first few weeks.

WHAT TO EXPECT AND WHEN

Most people notice their soil holding moisture differently within the first couple of weeks. Watering less often is usually one of the first signs things are changing underneath.

In good conditions, warm weather and regular watering, you can see a difference in the plant in as little as three weeks. Greener leaves, more upright growth, things that just look a bit more alive.

If conditions are cooler or drier, give it more time. The biology is still working, just more slowly.

USING IT THROUGH WINTER

This is the bit most people don't think about, and it's actually one of the most important.

Keep applying RootWise Balance through the cooler months, even when your garden slows down. Think of it as banking the microbes. You're building up the biology in your soil through autumn and winter so that when spring arrives and temperatures rise, everything is already in place and ready to go.

Gardens that have been consistently treated through winter tend to take off much faster in spring than ones that haven't. The soil is already alive and functioning. It just needs the warmth to get moving again.

Every two to four weeks through winter is plenty. Don't stop just because things look quiet above ground.

A FEW TIPS FROM EXPERIENCE

Water the soil after applying, don't let it sit on dry ground. The microbes need moisture to activate and move through the soil.

If you're transplanting seedlings, add a teaspoon to your watering can and give them a good drink straight after planting. It helps with transplant shock and gets the root system establishing faster.

If you're building a new bed from scratch, apply RootWise Balance from the beginning as you plant everything. You're setting the biology up as the plants arrive, which gives everything a much better start.

Pro tip: soak your seedlings in RootWise Balance before you transplant them
